History of Mayfield Park
Mayfield Park’s history dates back to 1909, when Allison Mayfield, a former Texas Secretary of State, purchased the land as a summer retreat. His daughter, Mary Mayfield Gutsch, and her husband Dr. Milton Gutsch later expanded the estate, adding the beautifully landscaped gardens and water features seen today. In 1971, Mary donated the park to the City of Austin, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
